WINTER WHEAT

We supply six varieties of Winter wheat here at Grennan’s. Our excellent range consists of Diego, Lumos, Weaver, Lilli, Rockefellar & Avatar.

DIEGO

  • A German variety with moderately short straw, moderate resistance to lodging and good resistance to straw breakdown.
  • Moderately resistant to mildew and fusarium.
  • Moderately susceptible to Septoria tritici.
  • Good resistance to sprouting.
  • Grain of feed quality with high thousand grain weight and good hectolitre weight.

LUMOS

  • A British bred variety with moderately short straw, very good resistance to lodging and good resistance to straw breakdown.
  • Good resistance to mildew and yellow rust with moderate susceptibility to fusarium and  Septoria tritici.
  • Good resistance to sprouting.
  • Very good grain quality, with a low thousand grain weight and a very good hectolitre weight.

WEAVER

  • A British bred variety with moderately long straw, susceptible to lodging and moderate resistance to straw breakdown.
  • Moderate susceptibilty to Septoria tritici and moderate resistance to fusarium.
  • Moderate resistance to mildew and good resistance to yellow rust.
  • Moderately susceptible to sprouting.
  • Grain of feed quality with a relatively good hectolitre weight.

LILLI

  • A late maturing British bred variety with short straw, very good resistance to lodging and to straw breakdown.
  • Very good reistance to mildew and moderate resistance to Septoria tritici and yellow rust.
  • Moderate susceptibility to fusarium.
  • Good resistance to sprouting.
  • Grain of bread quality with good hectolitre weight.

ROCKEFELLAR

  • One of winter wheat from Denmark that offers exceptional disease resistance along with very high yield potential and good quality grain.
  • It is derived from a different gene pool to all other varieties currently available in Ireland, and has been bred to be better adapted to our maritime climate, coping with high disease pressure and a long growing season.
  • Top rated variety for septoria resistance (8) in Irish trials for past 3 years
  • Consistently high yielding across a range of sowing dates and rotational positions
  • Tall strawed but with good resistance to lodging
  • Late maturing variety that is also very suitable for early sowing
  • Excellent resistance to mildew and yellow rust, also good on fusarium
  • Produces a lovely bold sample of grain with high KPH / TGW

AVATAR

  • A very high yielding British variety with a moderately long straw and good resistance to lodging and straw breakdown.
  • Moderatlely late maturing. Moderately susceptible to mildew and Septoria tritici.
  • Moderately susceptible to sprouting.
  • Grain of feed quality with good hectolitre weight.
